I was going to pick Phil Mickelson on some recent good showings, but, how do you discount the unknown factor of Tiger. Whenever he has some time off, for injury or whatever, he seems to return with renewed vigor and concentration. (If THAT is possible). I am also going out on a limb, to say there will be a couple of Australians in the mix at the front. WITH, Tiger, Phil and Adam Scott in the same group for the first two days it is hard to go past one of these guys to win. (8:06 - 1st) What do you think? OK, I have had another look through the pairings, and I have to list 7:22 10th - K J Choi/Jim Furyk/Steve Stricker 7:55 10th - Stuart Appleby/Jerry Kelly/Lee Westwood 12:52 1st - Stewart Cink/ Sergio Garcia/Vijay Singh 1:36 1st - Angel Cabrera/Padraig Harrington/Davis Love III 1:14 10th - Ian Poulter/Paul Casey/Luke Donald (Nick Faldo says he will be following this group) 1:36 10th - Justin Rose/Geoff Ogilvy/Ernie Els I'll add a dozen Golf Balls to the prize below, IF, someone picks the winner, who is NOT listed above. NOW there is a challenge. *** BE IN TO WIN * * * *** BE IN TO WIN * * * Email me at greg@goforgolf.com with the "subject" - "USOPEN" WITH your pick for the winner, and be in to win a copy of the CD "Play Better Golf" by hypnotherapist Grant Boddington http://www.nzhypnosis.com/play-better-golf-cd.html I'll let you enter until the start of the saturday round. All games are played under MATCH PLAY Rules, where the results are determined by the number of holes won. Played over 3 days, the first two days involve FOURBALL in the morning and FOURSOMES in the afternoon. The Final day is SINGLES format. If you are like me and haven't played in many Club events, you are probably thinking what is the diifference between these 3 formats. This month I cover FOURBALL (This is in my words, not any technical stuff) Each match is made up of two two-man teams. Each player plays their own ball all the way on each hole, and the player who scores the best wins the hole for their team. If a player from each team have the same score, then the hole is halved. Picking up your ball - Now, you will be saying, but, I see players picking up their ball quite often during the Ryder Cup. The reason for this is, if the players team partner has sunk his putt, and he cannot beat the score made, there is no purpose in him continuing to finish the hole (as he would in normal tournamnet play). Similarly, if a member of the opposition has sunk his putt, and he cannot equal that score, he might as well go to the next hole. The great thing I found in match play is: a. You do not have to count 7s 8s and 9s b. If you muck up a hole, you have lost only "1" . . . and not perhaps 3 or 4 shots as in stroke play. Next Month . . . FOURSOMES Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS The 2008 US Open is only ONE week away: For updated news try: http://www.usopen.com And course coverage: Torrey Pines Golf Course: http://www.torreypinesgolfcourse.com/ (Some sites don't seem to load on the first attempt - try a second time) The USPGA Tour for June 2008: 29 to 1 Jun the Memorial Tournament Muirfield Village GC, OH http://www.thememorialtournament.com/ http://www.tccmv.com/ 5 to 8 Jun Stanford St Jude Championship TPC Southwind, TN http://www.stanfordstjude.com/ http://www.tpcatsouthwind.com/ 12 to 15 Jun U S Open Championship Torrey Pines GC, CA http://www.usopen.com/ http://usga.usopen.com/course/index.html Click the image for each hole http://www.torreypinesgolfcourse.com/ 19 to 22 Jun Travelers Championship TPC River Highlands, CT http://www.travelerschampionship.com/ http://www.tpcatriverhighlands.com/ 26 to 29 Jun Buick Open Warwick Hills G&CC, M http://www.buickopen.pgatour.com/ http://warwickhills.org/ 3 to 6 Jul AT&T National Congressional CC, MD http://www.attnational.org/ hosted by Tiger Woods http://www.ccclub.org/ The 2008 European Tour: 29 to 1 Jun the Celtic Manor Wales Open Celtic Manor Resort, Wales http://www.walesopen.com/ http://www.celtic-manor.com/ 5 to 8 Jun Bank Austria Golf Open Fontana GC, Vienna, Austria http://www.bank-austria-golfopen.com/ http://www.fontana.at/golf/home.asp?sp=1 12 to 15 Jun open de St Omer Aa St Omer GC, France http://www.golfopensaintomer.com/ http://www.aa-st-omer-golfclub.com/ 19 to 22 Jun BMW International Open Golfclub Munchen Eichenried http://bmw-golfsport.com/gs/en/ http://www.gc-eichenried.de/ 26 to 29 Jun Open de France Le Golf National, Paris, Fr http://www.opendefrance.fr/ http://www.golf-national.com/ 03 to 06 Jul European Open The London GC, Kent, England http://www.europeantour.com/ http://www.londongolf.co.uk/ The 2008 US Ladies LPGA Tour 29 to 1 Jun Ginn Tribute hosted by Annika Rivertowne CC, SC http://www.ginntribute.com/ http://www.rivertownecountryclub.com/ 5 to 8 Jun McDonalds LPGA Championship Bulle Rock GC, MD http://www.mcdslpgachampionship.com/ http://www.bullerockgolf.com/ 19 to 22 Jun Wegmans Rochester International Locust Hill CC, NY http://www.rochesterlpga.com/ http://www.locusthillgolfcourse.com/ 26 to 29 Jun U S Women's Open Interlachen CC, MN http://www.2008uswomensopen.com/ http://www.interlachencc.org/ 04 to 06 Jul P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Champs Pinnacle CC, AK http://www.pgbeautychampionship.com/ http://www.pinnaclecc.com/ The 2008 EUROPEAN Ladies Tour 29 to 1 Jun Ladies German Open Golfpark Gut Hausern http://www.hvbladiesgermanopen.com/ http://www.golf-eschenried.de/PlatzGutHaeusern/en/index.rsys 5 to 8 Jun ABN AMRO Ladies Open Eindhovensche Golf, Holland http://www.eindhovenschegolf.nl/ 13 to 15 Jun Ladies Open de Portugal Quinta da Ria, Portugal http://www.ladieseuropeantour.com/ http://www.quintadaria.com/ 19 to 22 Jun Tenerife Ladies Open Golf Costa Adeje http://www.tenerifeladiesopen.com/ http://www.golfcostaadeje.com/ 4 to 6 July The Oxfordshire Ladies English Open Oxfordshire GC http://www.ladiesenglishopen.co.uk/ http://www.theoxfordshiregolfclub.com/ Many of the above courses are in the GoforGOLF course directory And other sporting sites, http://www.rolandgarros.com/ French Tennis Open - underway http://www.allblacks.com/ International season against Ireland & England starts 7th June http://www.euro2008.uefa.com/ Euro 2008 Tournament 7th to 29th June http://www.wimbledon.org/ Wimbledon Championship - starts 23th June http://www.letour.fr/ Tour de France commences 5th July This website gives you all the info Check it again when the event starts Some more Golf: http://www.markbrowngolf.com/ Kiwi Pro making his MARK on the European Tour http://www.golfprints.net/ Some great Golf prints for a guys Den Future Major Events: http://en.beijing2008.cn/ 2008 Olympics - 8th to 24th August http://www.rydercup.com/ 2008 Ryder Cup - 16th to 23rd September *** http://www.goforgolf.co.nz/links.asp *** If you find any other interesting web sites for these tournaments, or other sports sites, please let me know. __________________________________________________________ *** MEMBER-GUEST " Club tournament usually won as a result of supernatural play by an old army buddy or one of the members who just got a little lucky and managed to shoot a Gross Score equal to his USGA Handicap Index of 38 on the back nine " Definition from "Golf'ing - a Duffers Dictionary" __________________________________________________________ *** More New Courses - Worldwide The Course Directory - more added EVERY DAY.
