*** COMPETITION WINNER
Congratulations to the winners of our May competition.
This month's winners come from the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, New Zealand
Your GoforGOLF Sports Caps will be on their way to you shortly.
*************************************************************************** *****
*** BIRTHDAY PRESENTS
We at GoforGOLF wish to thank the many avid golf players that have supported us during the our first year.
SO we are going to supply the presents.
It seemed unfair to give all the presents to those that put in the most scorecards, as that would penalise those that have registered more recently, so I have calculated the average number of cards loaded per month.
And . . . the winners are . . . from:
New Zealand
USA
Sweden
Australia
We also congratulate those players that have scored Holes in One, Eagles and now Albatrosses.
Thanks for sharing those experiences with us.
*************************************************************************** *****
*** INTERESTING STATS
We have worldwide Registrations - Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany Indonesia, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, Uraguay and even New Zealand.
Registration is split:
Handicaps
Most Scorecards Entered

*** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES and an ALBATROSS
YES - A hole in one on the 2nd at Helensville Golf Club. Well Done Gary Arnold.
Gary writes " . . . I couldn't believe my eyes - When I lost sight of the ball I thought "gee my eyes are getting bad", but my partner started laughing and said I think you've holed it! A great thrill."
EAGLES - Plenty of Eagles, including one to beat the two Eagles by the same chap in April. John Smith hit two Eagles on consecutive holes at Burnham Camp Golf Club on the 15th and 16th holes.
John writes ". . . 160 metres to the pin. I hit a 5 iron which landed short of the green bounced on and rolled into the hole. I didn't see it go in but my playing partners did. The 16th is a 298 metre par 4 dogleg left. . . I then hit a wedge over the trees. The ball hit the green, bounced and went straight in the hole."
Well done John.
Other Eagles were scored at Northland Golf Club by Rob Dinsdale and at Totaradale Golf Club by Andrew Ferguson on the 3rd.
Andrew writes ". . . It was probably just as well that the ball hit the pin dead square as the speed it was travelling it would have ended up at the back of the green . . . I was wrapped."
And not to be out done, Grant Thompson of Waiuku Golf & Squash Club eagled the par 5 18th on the 13th May and the par 4 17th on the 29th May.
Grant writes " . . . then hit a sand wedge about 30 m into the hole on the fly. I even had a gallery watching (the greens staff)."
To top off the month of May, we also have our first ALBATROSS on the 8th at Wattle Downs Golf & Country Club on the 27th May.
(Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission).

*** Slope Rating & Handicapping System
The GoforGOLF is in the process of introducing the USGA Slope System capable changes. We are doing this now, so that our American and European players can commence to use the system, and so that other enhancements incorporated in the upgrade can be introduced.
For non slope countries, simply ignore the USGA Slope option.
NEW - Changing your Handicap
You no longer have to go back to the home page to access the 'Change your Details' button. You can now change your handicap at the same time as entering a scorecard. Overtype your handicap and click the tickbox alongside and your handicap will be updated automatically when you 'submit' your score.
*** For the Inquisitive
There are a number of web sites that have information on the Slope system. These include simple overviews and historical articles, through to detailed explanations with full formulas etc. The USGA website has their Slope Manual online.
Try these:
and keep an eye on GoforGOLF for further info.

Thanks for the tip John Snow.

*** MORE SPORTS LINKS
I haven't had much success with finding special websites for the June tournaments, with the exception, of course, of the US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP is to be played on the famous Pebble Beach Links Course from 15th to 18th June.
The Pebble Beach Links website has a wonderful tour of the course,
giving a huge amount of information on each hole. Well worth a visit
before the event, so that you are familiar with the course.
www.pebblebeach.com
The official website has been launched. This includes a 3D view of
a number of holes. (It does need some extra software).
www.usopen.com
Also view the Pebble Beach scorecard on GoforGOLF - just click

The other US tournaments in June.
for a course description

If you find any other interesting web sites for these tournaments, please let me know.

*** Caddies
"Real golfers, whatever the provocation, never strike a caddie with the driver. The sand wedge is far more effective."

ADD IT, or send us the scorecards (mens and womens) and we will
