WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ HAPPY NEW YEAR *** HAPPY NEW YEAR *** HAPPY NEW YEAR ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** New in 2010 *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Golfing ************************************************************************ *** NEW in 2010 The 2010 year has started with the SBS Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii, and the commentators emphasising the differences to be seen with the change to the GROOVES. Sir Nick Faldo has the job of covering the effect the new Grooves will make. From what I have seen, the new grooves will have less grip on the ball, and so it will be harder to impart spin, that incredible thing the professionals can do, and us amateurs continue to wonder about. Theoretically, drives will not go as far, it will take a longer club to approach the green, and so it will be harder to stop the ball as precisely as before. Short chip shots, less than 90 meters, particularly from the rough, will be much more difficult to stop close to the hole. More thought and feel will be required. (Like the old days . . . says Nick). Let us wait and see what happens . . . I have yet to determine how this change will effect the average club player. Will we have to buy new clubs, or will our present clubs still be able to be used. . . . . . . *** SOMETHING TO WATCH 365 courses in 365 days . . . All in One Year !!! http://www.puregolf2010.com/ News has just come to hand about Two Young Kiwis are setting out to play 365 courses in 365 days all around the world. It is for a great cause http://www.thefirstteenz.org.nz/ Starting in New Zealand, they will have to play 6570 holes in 16 different countries, walking at least 2190 km. Amongst other things, they estimate they will lose 1480 balls between the two of them. They will obviously need some help on their journey, so I encourage you to contact them through their website, and please support ** The First Tee NZ ** project. Good Luck Guys, you have the support of GoforGOLF. . . . . . . Changes to Courses If your home course, ends with 3 dots, it indicates that there has been a change to your course, significant enough that we have had to enter new course details. This usually occurs from a redesign of a course or where the par of holes have changed. Both these cause changes that effect the corrected score and stableford calculations of GoforGOLF, whereas, if it is only a change in the yardage of a hole, we can easily update that detail. If you find the 3 dots, select the 'Change your Details' button once you have 'signed in' and go to the 'Choose your home or Default Course' display. Click the down arrow, and select the new course layout for your course. If you find a course has made changes to their layout and scorecard, please let us know, or even better, send us a scorecard, and we will update the details on GoforGOLF: Greg at greg@goforgolf.com 2. New Members - Welcome - useful tips To help you enjoy GoforGOLF I make the following suggestions: a. Password - Don't make it too difficult or too long, as you need to type it in each time you visit GoforGOLF. (Unless you choose to 'automatically' remember it). Please do not start with a zero, '0', as it makes it difficult for us to search if you forget your password. You are not protecting the crown jewels, so make your password easy to remember. b. If you forget your access number or password . . . PLEASE don't register again USE the 'Forgot your Details?' button on the green menu, and we will email you back. Send us your access number if you can, it is on your last newsletter. c. Select your Home or Default course. This can be the most used course you play, and it will automatically load when you 'Sign In'. You can always select other courses in the usual way, but, this will save you time when you play your own / usual course. This is accessed through the 'Change your Details' button on the green menu, once you have 'Signed In'. d. You can change your 'Handicap Index' at the time you enter your score. Just tick the box alongside the 'Handicap Index' once you have selected the course you played and have entered the date you played, and your master information will be updated, ready for next time. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS The 2010 European season has started in the Southern Hemisphere, with co sanctioned tournaments in South Africa in the Race to Dubai, while the 2010 US PGA Tour is underway in Hawaii with the SBS Championship, the 2009 winners only tournament, the first tournament of the 2010 FEDEX Cup Championship.
