Newsletter Number 144 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ Now in our 11TH YEAR with over ** 52,000 ** scorecards entered and courses from over 67 countries . . . growing by the day. WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** The World Number ONE *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Sub Par Golf ************************************************************************ *** THE WORLD NUMBER ONE While I feel disappointed that Tiger is not playing to the standard he created, I am enjoying the present situation, with Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer so close, that they can not take a week off with out loosing their No 1 position to one of the others. And with Phil Mickelson back in the mix and Graeme McDowell continuing with top finishes in each tournament, will we have a 5 player race. And having just looked at the full World Golf Rankings, we can also add, Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Paul Casey and Charl Schwartzel within another half a point. I surmise, that if this was the situation some years ago, when Tiger was supreme, the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai may not have been established. Now, I suggest that we watch the European players, lead by two Englishmen, to try and secure both the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai, both sides of the Atlantic, while trying to retain the World No 1 position. Bring on the US Open, and THE Open early July, and let's watch the competition for No 1. And don't forget Tiger, if he gets his fitness back. I am looking forward to it. . . . . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on events, or on my comments . . . to email . . . greg@goforgolf.com Enjoy your Golf Greg Paul GoforGOLF __________________________________________________________ *** MAY COMPETITION The winner of the May Spot the Ball is Simone Jenkins, of Omokoroa, New Zealand The winning position was c 6. Slope Handicap System GoforGOLF is completely set up for the use of the US Slope Rating handicap system. All courses that have a slope rating have a Slope Rating Chart available on their web page. Also, by selecting to use the Slope Rating System, your handicap index will automatically be converted to your "course handicap", and your stableford calculated using this. To use the Slope System, click 'Change your Details', and tick the 'Use USGA Slope Rating for score entry' box. If you only sometimes play a rated course, click the button anyway, to ensure the Slope Rating system will operate Whenever it is available. 2. What does that Mean ? There are some regular questions asked about golfing terms, and how GoforGOLF interpretes them. Many commonly know actions, terms and expressions, have different names in different countries in the world. If you can not find an explanation of a term used on GoforGOLF, either in "GoforGOLF HELP" or in the HandiTIPS in previous newsletters, see 'Newsletter Archive', OR would just like an explanation of a golfing term, then email me, and I will attempt to create an international dictionary. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS The US OPEN is only ONE week away: For updated news try: http://www.usopen.com And course coverage: Congressional Country Club: http://www.ccclub.org/ The USPGA Tour for June 2011: 02 to 05 Jun Memorial Tournament Muirfield Village GC, OH http://www.thememorialtournament.com/ http://www.nicklaus.com/design/muirfieldvillage/ 09 to 12 Jun FedEx St Jude Champs TPC Southwind, TN http://www.stjudeclassic.com/ http://www.tpcatsouthwind.com/ 16 to 19 Jun U S Open Championship Congressional CC, MD http://www.usopen.com/ http://www.usopen.com/en_US/index.html#!/course/index/ Click the image for each hole http://www.ccclub.org/ 23 to 26 Jun Travelers Championship TPC River Highlands, CT http://www.travelerschampionship.com/ http://www.tpcatriverhighlands.com/ 30 to 03 Jul AT&T National Aronimink GC, PA www.attnational.org/home/default.sps http://www.aronimink.org/ 07 to 10 Jul John Deere Classic TPC Deere Run http://www.johndeereclassic.com/ http://www.tpc.com/tpc-deere-run The 2011 European Tour: 02 to 05 Jun Saab Wales Open Celtic Manor, Wales http://www.walesopen.com/ http://www.celtic-manor.com/The_Twenty_Ten_Course.aspx 09 to 12 Jun BMW Italian Open Royal Park I Roveri http://www.bmwitalianopen.com/ http://royalparkgolf.it/ 16 to 19 Jun Open de St Omer Aa St Omer GC, France http://www.golfopensaintomer.com/ http://www.aa-st-omer-golfclub.com/ 23 to 26 Jun BMW International Open Golfclub Munchen Eichenried http://bmw-golfsport.com/gs/en/ http://www.gc-eichenried.de/ 30 to 03 Jul Alstom Open de France Le Golf National, Paris, Fr http://www.opendefrance.fr/ http://www.golf-national.com/ 07 to 10 Jul Barclays Scottish Open Castle Stuart Golf Links http://scottishopen.barclaysgolf.com/ http://www.castlestuartgolf.com/ The 2011 US LPGA Tour 03 to 05 Jun ShopRite LPGA Classic Seaview - A Dolce Resort http://www.shopritelpgaclassic.com/ http://www.seaviewgolf.com/index.php 09 to 12 Jun LPGA State Farm Classic Panther Creek CC, IL http://www.lpgastatefarmclassic.com/ http://www.panthercreekcc.com/ 23 to 26 Jun Wegmans Rochester International Locust Hill CC, NY http://www.wegmanslpga.org/ http://www.locusthillgolfcourse.com/ 07 to 10 Jul U S Women's Open The Broadmoar, CO http://www.2011uswomensopen.com/ http://www.broadmoor.com/luxury-golf-resorts.php The 2011 EUROPEAN Ladies Tour 03 to 05 Jun Delloite Dutch Ladies Open Golfclub Broekpolder http://www.deloitteladiesopen.nl/ http://www.golfclub-broekpolder.nl/ 10 to 12 Jun Tenerife Ladies Match Play Golf de Las Americas, Spain http://en.golflasamericas.com/tournaments/tenerife-ladies-match-play/ http://www.golflasamericas.com/ 16 to 19 Jun Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open Golf Gerre Losone http://www.dblso.ch/ http://www.golflosone.ch/ 30 to 02 Jul Finnair Masters Helsinki GC, Finland http://www.finnairmasters.com/2011/index_fi.html http://golfpiste.com/helsingingolfklubi/ Many of the above courses are in the GoforGOLF course directory And other sporting sites, http://www.fft.fr/rolandgarros/ French Tennis Open - underway http://www.iomtt.com/ Isle of Man TT 20 May to 10 June http://www.allblacks.com/ Next Game - Tri Nations 30 July against South Africa http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/ Starts in New Zealand on 9th September http://www.wimbledon.org/ Wimbledon Championship - starts 20th June http://www.hockey.nl/ct2011/ FIH Womens Champions Trophy - 25th June http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/index.html Fifa Womens World Cup - starts 28th June http://www.letour.fr/us/homepage_horscourseCDD.html Tour de France commences 2nd July This website gives you all the info Check it again when the event starts *** http://www.goforgolf.co.nz/links.asp *** If you find any other interesting web sites for these tournaments, or other sports sites, please let me know. __________________________________________________________ *** Sub Par Golf "In golf I'm one under; one under a tree, one under a rock, one under a bush".
