GoforGOLF . . . NEWSLETTER THIRTY SEVEN . . . GoforGOLF
Newsletter Number 37 from GoforGOLF In our fourth year and with thousands of scorecards entered ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** Tiger wins the Second *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN a Video about Old Tom Morris *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Sports Links *** The Wrong Ball ************************************************************************ *** TIGER WINS THE SECOND Tiger showed his superiority at the US Open at Bethpage, by taking the lead on the first day and holding it through the second, the third . . . and right through to the Finish, letting the opposition get no closer than 2 shots before pulling away and finishing with a bogey on the 18th. Tiger's game was solid, but not spectacular, his putting was letting him down. 36 putts on the 4th round was way below his usual level of around 29 or 30, and shows how much further ahead he could have been. (Putts per round 29.85 this year). Is anyone willing to bet against him picking up The Open (18-21 July) and the PGA Championship (15-18 August) for the Absolute Grand Slam ??? __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION WINNER Congratulations to the winner of our June competition. This month's winner is from Greymouth Golf Club Your prize of a 15 ball pack of TopFlight Titanium TX Balls . . . will be on its way to you shortly. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES GoforGOLF HoleS S S in One in June 8th Jun Greenwood Golf Club - Challenge Course 8th Blue Tee Bill Field 26th Jun Lochiel Golf Club - Hamilton 7th Red Tee Jack Wilson And Eagles from around the world 9th Jun Subhapruek Golf Course, Thailand 11th Yellow Tee Mark Robertson 16th Jun Falls Village Golf Club, Nth Carolina 7th Blue Tee An excited Bill email me, "Just had to pass on my great news; I got a hole-in-one today!! The only one I ever got. What a shock when you actually get one. I've seen it and heard about it many times, but never experienced it - what a rush. I got it at the 14th Wing Greenwood GC (Nova Scotia, Canada) on the #8 from the blue tees. A 160 yard par 3. I used a4 iron into a medium headwind and hit it onto the green and it rolled 10 feet into the hole. Yahoo!! " Jack, also shocked, tells us, "I was looking for my ball on the green and was unable to see it from my angle, but one of our opponents saw what he thought was half a ball against the pin and thought being a vets day, that a practical joker had left half a ball there . . . but when my partner sank his putt for a two, we both had 4 stableford points for an easy win. Alas, we lost the haggle! " Mark was so keen to tell me, I have had to edit it a bit. "I hit a big drive with a slight draw ending in the middle of the fairway which left me with around about 235 yards into the green where the pin was positioned at the back. The 11th hole has bunkers running all the way down the left hand side . . . right hand side of the fairway is dotted with bunkers with trees further to the right should you slice . . . I waited then struck the perfect shot. The ball landed on the top of the incline and ran on 10 yards to lie 8 feet to the left of the pin. I knew the ball was close to the stick, so when I got to my ball I marked it and then knocked the putt in the center of the cup." Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission). _________________________________________________________ *** JULY COMPETITION This month the prize is a Video about Old Tom Morris KEEPER OF THE GREENS 'Old Tom Morris' won The Open 4 times, 1861-62-64 and 67.
